Dalmellington Dark Skies Observatory

The Scottish Dark Sky Observatory, situated near Dalmellington, was once a key feature of Galloway Forest Park, which earned the distinction of becoming the UK's first Dark Sky Park and the world's fourth in 2009.

The observatory itself was officially opened in 2012. Tragically, a fire in 2021 led to its destruction, and after an independent feasibility study, it was determined that rebuilding on the original site would not proceed.
